Another Type of Lie
Another kind of lie that is easily detectable is when a person displays some outstanding circumstance (usually a tragic or disasterous event) that necessarily morally outweighs that person's transgression committed.
For example, I once discovered that a secretary who worked for me had cashed a check some time earlier that was written from the business account. When I confronted her about it she became very defensive and asked 'What was I supposed to do? My boyfriend's cousin had just been killed in a car wreck and we had to rush there and we had no money?"
Clearly she was shocked at my discovery which was very indicting on her and so had to come up with some cover. It couldn't be a simple response like...oh I forget to tell you... Of course by this time in my life I had figured out that this was a way to cover for shame and a guilty conscience.
I had caught myself doing the same at a much earlier stage in life to cover not for theft but for forgetting a very important task which I had been assigned to do by a former boss.
Sometimes we humans are quiet easy to understand. And often we follow the same patterns. One just learns the patterns and can observe much.
