Soon I Will Be Planting a Marker on the Timeline of Life
Soon I will be planting a marker on the timeline of life. My life. It will be no different an experience than that of the billions before me. So then I am part of the universal timeline that runs both parallel and linear. It both encompasses and threads us all together. It is the dastardly burden that some say an angry God has imposed upon us.
As their parents before them and as ours are now, they are well on there way down that dusty worn path that ends somewhere where the sky meets the earth. And we watch helplessly as the distance pulls, as time slowly nudges them away. Soon my parents will be gone.
I had seen it before with others. I had even briefly thought about how it would feel when it is my turn. Well, now it is my turn and nothing has prepared me. Here I am, in my childhood home with two old people that I know as mom and dad. Tying loose ends, wrapping up unfinished plans. Bank accounts, funeral confirmations, insurance policies, health care matters...
Soon this chapter will end. Then It will be time to focus on life. It is always time to focus on life. Death is part of life.
